However I was really interested to read this week that both Disney and Royal Caribbean offer a 5K run around Caribbean islands. Disney Cruise Line have their own private island Castaway Cay and offer this run to every ship that calls there, there is no additional charge and they have between 20 and 90 passengers on average participating. The run takes place early in the morning before it becomes too hot and then giving you the chance to lie back on the beach or enjoy the many other sporting activities that the island has to offer.Royal Caribbean's 5K run is just an annual event and this year takes place on the 12th December on the island of St Maarten. The run is the highlight of a themed cruise on board Allure of the Seas and runners have access to the following;
Private meet-and-greet sessions with high-profile racing athletes
Seminars and lectures with high-profile athletes
Personal training tips from experts
Speed tests onboard the track on your ship
Royal Caribbean are not quite as generous as Disney with their run and charge $25pp to particpate in the cruise, however an awards ceremony is also held. The race is open to participants from 10-100 years old.
Unfortunately I am currently injured having sprained my ankle whilst training for the Birmingham Half Marathon otherwise I would be seriously be considering booking on to the Allure sailing. Cabins start from just £540 per person on a cruise only basis. Maybe I'll do it next year.
