Are Princess Cruises making the right choice?

Princess Cruises have made the brave move of allowing  cameras on board the Royal Princess and the footage is to be aired on prime time TV this month.

Starting at 8pm on Friday 11th July ITV will be airing the 4 part documentary which was shot on  board a Caribbean sailing last winter.

Princess are obviously hoping that it will show the ship and the company in a good light however reality TV shows do not always do this and cruise lines have not always been shown in the best light. Back in 2002 a show of the same name 'The Cruise Ship' featured the Island Escape but focused upon mishaps, crew relationships, quarrels and people sacked for incompetence whilst Channel 4's Dispatches programme highlighted the working conditions of staff on board the Celebrity Eclipse and showed the company in a very bad light.

This show I believe will be based more around life on board and Princess are confident in their product - Paul Ludlow the managing director for UK and Europe sees it as a marketing opportunity stating “Cruise holidays are an increasingly popular choice in the UK and we are confident that this series will widen the appeal even further,”

The Royal Princess was christened by the Duchess of Cambridge last summer and I sailed on her with my partner last July. She is a fantastic ship and I loved her. She is a large ship, had a lot of great facilities and a great feeling of space on board. She has also received good reviews from her first couple of seasons so it will be really interesting to see how she is portrayed on the show.
