I
just love these photos of Captain Kevin Oprey standing on Queen Mary 2's
bulbous bow as part of her 10th anniversary celebrations. Taken off the coast
of Bali at the weekend they are being used to promote the ship's party in May.
Apparently
it took months of preparation and they had to wait for the weather conditions
to be perfect in order to take the picture safely. Two safety boats were used
to transport Captain Oprey to the bow and James Morgan the photographer was in
a small boat to the front of the ship.
James
Morgan has been a photographer for Cunard for as long as Queen Mary 2 has been
sailing for them and he said ‘For me, the lines, the shapes, the
curves of the Queen Mary 2, make her the most amazing ocean liner in the world'
He used a wide angle lens to take the shot and has really captured her beauty.
Queen
Mary 2 first sailed on the 8th January 2004 and has sailed 419 voyages including over 200 Transatlantic
Crossings and called at 182 ports in 60 countries. She's carried over 1.3
million guests and over 2000 dogs and covered the same distance as going to the
moon and back 3 times.
On
the 9th May this year she will be celebrating her birthday in Southampton
alongside Queen Elizabeth and Queen Victoria. The day will culminate with a
firework spectacular as the ships set sail together.
Next
year she will be celebrating again for Cunard's 175th anniversary celebrations
and will be sailing the route of the original transatlantic sailing from
Liverpool in July.
If
you would like to get involved in either of these celebrations just give me a
call or drop me an e-mail
